Inspirations

Lately i've been thinking a lot about diversity and inclusion. I've become a bit more self aware of the things that i love. Anime is definitely one of those things. The reason i love Anime is because i grew up on the shows that i would see on tv as a youngster. The shows like pokemon and dragon ball z. They still inspire me to this day. Moreso the character, traits, personalities and the character designs. Also supreme story-telling which i think that the japanese and koreans do extremely well in comparison to the states. It hit me that there isn't much African or Black american inspiration/representation to draw from, besides from a few cartoon shows like: Static Shock or the Boondocks which is still going strong. Black characters are usually support and not the norm. It is understandable, as Japanese draw from what they see on their islands and countries. They really go hard fro their culture and their people. I have made the decision to draw from my inspirations ...

Script: Rough Draft

Image
Attached is my first draft script for the film adaptation: "On Being Crazy" by W.E.B Dubois. I have made sure to pay special attention to setting the scene and being descriptive, but straight to the point as far as what is going on in the environment and how the characters are reacting and responding. I have capitalized names during introductions and paid special attention to focusing on what scenes are most important and how to condense the information to make the story and transitions smooth but detailed and engaging. Attached is the first page excerpt.

Captain Marvel

Over the weekend, i was able to watch Captain Marvel, The first female-superhero lead for Marvel Studios. The movie was very slow in the beginning and the pacing dragged until the midpoint and conflict/resolution. The movie picked up fast towards the end and a lot of the easter eggs explained and revealed how the sequence of events before the movie came to be and take place. The movie took place in the past (when blockbuster was still relevant.) Samuel L. Jackson was more outgoing and happier than he usually is as a modern day Nick Fury (grumpy, easily irritated.) The main character, captain marvel, carol danvers was decent as a female superhero, but a lot of her emotion was flat. She was a bit too "tomboyish" which isn't realistic to the comics. Of course, the skrulls were the main villains of the film. I believe the star of the show was the pilot that was Captain Marvels best friend. I actually believe she would do better as a super woman. She is a black woman, and real...

Treatment

Attached is my treatment. The story is told as it is happening from scene to scene with no dialogue. I am pretty much ready to begin the process of typing my first draft script.
