Inspirations

Lately i've been thinking a lot about diversity and inclusion. I've become a bit more self aware of the things that i love. Anime is definitely one of those things. The reason i love Anime is because i grew up on the shows that i would see on tv as a youngster. The shows like pokemon and dragon ball z. They still inspire me to this day. Moreso the character, traits, personalities and the character designs. Also supreme story-telling which i think that the japanese and koreans do extremely well in comparison to the states. It hit me that there isn't much African or Black american inspiration/representation to draw from, besides from a few cartoon shows like: Static Shock or the Boondocks which is still going strong. Black characters are usually support and not the norm. It is understandable, as Japanese draw from what they see on their islands and countries. They really go hard fro their culture and their people. I have made the decision to draw from my inspirations

Script: Rough Draft

Image
Attached is my first draft script for the film adaptation: "On Being Crazy" by W.E.B Dubois. I have made sure to pay special attention to setting the scene and being descriptive, but straight to the point as far as what is going on in the environment and how the characters are reacting and responding. I have capitalized names during introductions and paid special attention to focusing on what scenes are most important and how to condense the information to make the story and transitions smooth but detailed and engaging. Attached is the first page excerpt.

Captain Marvel

Image
Over the weekend, i was able to watch Captain Marvel, The first female-superhero lead for Marvel Studios. The movie was very slow in the beginning and the pacing dragged until the midpoint and conflict/resolution. The movie picked up fast towards the end and a lot of the easter eggs explained and revealed how the sequence of events before the movie came to be and take place. The movie took place in the past (when blockbuster was still relevant.) Samuel L. Jackson was more outgoing and happier than he usually is as a modern day Nick Fury (grumpy, easily irritated.) The main character, captain marvel, carol danvers was decent as a female superhero, but a lot of her emotion was flat. She was a bit too "tomboyish" which isn't realistic to the comics. Of course, the skrulls were the main villains of the film. I believe the star of the show was the pilot that was Captain Marvels best friend. I actually believe she would do better as a super woman. She is a black woman, and real

Treatment

Attached is my treatment. The story is told as it is happening from scene to scene with no dialogue. I am pretty much ready to begin the process of typing my first draft script.

Production Design : P2

For this Cinematography class i have a new set of inspirations for layout design. I have chosen the basic images found online through the google images search engine. The purpose of these settings and environments are to serve as locations for the scenes that i will be creating in my final project. -A cafeteria -A theatre -A railroad/ or some sort of beaten path -A counter or desk where a certain interaction can take place.

Speculative Fiction : Short Story

Image
For the beginning few weeks of class, we have been discussing the topic of speculative fiction. The assignment states that we are to choose a short story, poem, novel that has to deal with the concept of afro-futurism, or the black experience in general. Read that story, and create a film adaptation for our final project. I have done a bit of research on the topic and have finally chosen what i want to adapt. Before beginning this research, i had to think from a realistic and practical lens. What is my budget, what are my possible resources, who could i possibly cast, should i go for a popular book, or should it be more underground. What messages concerning the black experience speak to me the most? Upon lots of inner dialogue & research i have come to terms with the project and story that i want to adapt. I have chosen a short story : " On Being Crazy" By the Legendary W.E.B Dubois. There are several reasons that i chose this author. He has depth and a background i
